Newsweek EducationにあったThe Worse Résumé Cliches of 2010という記事には,LinkedInの調査により明らかになった,アメリカの就職活動で履歴書に頻出する表現のベスト10が載っていました。結果は以下の通りです。

今回はこのベスト10の中からresults-orientedを採り上げます。result(結果)にoriented(向けられた)とはどういう意味でしょうか。まず,-orientedを辞書で調べてみると,「志向性の」とあります(『研究社 新英和中辞典』研究社)。よって,results-orientedとは「結果思考の」という意味だと言うことがわかります。では,「結果思考の人材」とはどういう人物を指しているのでしょうか。そこで,次にresults-orientedを調べてみると,「〈人が〉ちゃんと結果を出せる, 即戦力になれる」とありました(『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館)。また,同辞書にはresults-drivenやresults-motivatedも同じように用いることができるとありました。以上から,results-orientedとは会社にとって「即戦力」となる人材を指していることがわかります。確かに,日本の就職活動でも「即戦力」という言葉をよく耳にします。しかし,それもclichéなのですね。記事の最後には以下のように書かれていました。(院生 小山本)
