hygienic/hɑɪdʒíːnɪk/を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「衛生的な、衛生（学）に関する」とあります。対義語は接頭辞unをつけてunhygienic 「非衛生的な」となります。Oxford Dictionaryを引くと“conductive to maintain health and preventing disease, especially by being clean”とありました。
続いてsanitaryとの意味の違いを調べました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』を引くと「（公衆）衛生の、衛生的な、清潔な」とあり一見違いを感じられないですが、インターネットで調べてみたところ、hygienicは病気などにかからないように身の回りを綺麗にするといった意味があるのに対してsanitaryは人間の汚物を取り除いてその場所を綺麗にするといったニュアンスの違いがあるようです。(Kiwi girl)
