アメリカの世界に対する影響力が減少しているのではないかという記事です。影響力低下の兆候は2000年代に始まったとあります。この年代には，ITバブル，イラク戦争，貿易センタービルへのテロなどが相次いで発生した時期です。世界の警察としての役割を担ってきたアメリカですが，IS台頭にみられるように低下しているともあります。
記事の中で気になった単語は"hegemon"です。『Wisdom英和辞典第三版』（三省堂）によると「覇者, 覇権国」などという意味がありました。以前司馬遼太郎の『覇王の家』という本を読んだのですが，その中で，徳川家康は覇王なのか王者なのかということが書かれておりました。覇王は，武力によって統治を行う人であり，王者は徳によって統治を行うという違いがあるようです。アメリカはどちらの区分に入るのでしょうか。圧倒的な財政力や軍事力を背景に世界に影響力を与えていたところを考えると覇王に近いのかもしれません。（Ume）
