New York Today: August in May
Happy post-holiday Tuesday to you.
It’s been a nice little heat wave.
But today’s operative word, weatherwise, is gross.
If you work indoors, it will be a day, perhaps the first of the season, to be thankful for air-conditioning – if the air-conditioning has been turned on.
If you are outdoors, you will find this muggy morning (it’s already 78) an appetizer for the main soupy course.
By lunchtime’s end it will be about 88 largely breezeless degrees.
Then it will rain. On the way home, it may be raining pretty hard, and thundering.
The showers will not provide much respite from the heat.
A lush, tropical commute: just what you wanted.
Pack your cute new rain booties.
Though even Crocs might be forgiven on an evening like this one.
Late tonight, the rain stops and the mercury drops.
You may not need to dig out the A.C. just yet.
And the rest of the week features temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
So enjoy your one-day journey through the swamp.
operative wordは「重要な意味を持つ語、主要語」などと訳されますが,ふだん使いには「キーワード,鍵となることば(少なくともお天気的には)」となります。ちなみにわたしの今週のoperative wordはsuper busyです。(UG)
