過去にUG先生が取り上げられた単語ですが、だいぶ時間が経っていますので再掲します。

recidivismは「悪事を繰り返すこと、常習的犯罪」です。語源はラテン語の「元の状態にもどる」であるそうです。（ランダムハウス英和大辞典）
〜ismに関しては「主義、体系（ex. socialism, Darwinism）」「差別、偏見（ex. racism, sexism）」などの意味のsuffixとして使用されるのがよく知られているところですが、ここでは「病的状態（ex. alcoholism)」の意味として使われています。（ジーニアス英和大辞典）
教育現場では暗くなる話題が多いだけに、「再び」、「そちら側に」行かないように支援するこのような取り組みを耳にすると、うれしくなります。(Sy)
Companies team up to assist ex-prisoners
Seven companies, including a restaurant chain, and the Tokyo-based Nippon Foundation started this month a project to help people released from prison or juvenile reformatories get jobs.
They provide jobs and housing to help these people return to society.
It is the nation's first project in which companies are working together to employ former prisoners, and they plan to hire 100 people over the next five years.
Because judicial experts believe stability is key in preventing recidivism, the project has attracted attention.
