イギリスではテロ対策として、すべてのメール・郵便などの通信記録を政府が管理するようです。当然プライバシーの侵害だとして反対の声は上がっており、以下の英文はその一つ。by your leaveは「お許しを願って，よろしければ」という意味の表現です（『オーレックス英和辞典』旺文社）。ここでのleaveは「許可」という意味の名詞，喜びや賛成が原義であるようです（『ジーニアス英和大辞典』大修館書店）。
加えてbbcの動画を見てみると，privacyのpriが/prai/ではなく/pri/と発音されています。イギリスではどちらの発音でも良いようです。勉強になりました。（Sugiuchi）
