Yamato may discontinue ‘security package’ service
Yamato Transport Co. is considering ending its “security package” service in which confidential or valuable items, such as concert tickets and credit cards, are hand delivered, it has been learned.
The leading parcel delivery firm is aiming to improve working conditions for its employees amid a severe labor shortage by terminating the service, which places a heavy burden on workers in the form of numerous redeliveries.
The security package service is intended for corporate clients including banks and credit card companies that want cash cards and other valuables safely delivered to customers.
As with Japan Post Co.’s registered mail service, the parcels cannot be forwarded.
To avoid parcels getting lost, points en route to the destination are tracked in more detail than with standard home delivery services.
