語源を調べると，TimesHigherEducation.comによると，“its origins in lingchi, a highly unpleasant form of execution used in Imperial China”とありました。清の時代まで中国で行われた処刑方法の１つの“lingchi”「凌遅刑」から来ているようです。凌遅刑とは，生身の人間の肉を少しずつ切り落として，長時間激しい苦痛を与えたうえで死に至らす刑です。非常に残酷な刑であると感じました。(Nao)
