Japan in Depth / My Number system aims to smooth out procedures
The My Number system, in which identification numbers will be assigned to citizens, is meant to make various administrative procedures smoother, as documents such as residency certificates will no longer be required for identity verification.
The system also has the advantage of allowing administrative authorities to ensure pension or tax payments have been made.
However, as such a system could be vulnerable to abuse, the government will need to create measures ahead of the system’s introduction in January 2016 to prevent theft or leaks of personal information.
注目するのは、smooth outです。もともと滑らかにするというという意味から、「（物価変動など）をならす」という意味もありますが、今回の場合
「（問題など）を取り除く」という意味でつかわれています（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第四版、大修館）。キャッシュカードやクレジットカードをなくすケースが増えてきたからでしょうか。あのプラスチックのカードにこんなに情報が入ってるとは知りませんでした。
また、今回のsmooth outはsmooth awayとでもパラフレーズできます。smoothの語源に「なめらかな」とあるからでしょうか。使いやすい言葉なのでこれから使いまわしてみたいと思います。（Sugar)
