今回扱わせていただくのは、以前先輩も取り上げられていますが、in the wake ofという表現です。

wakeというとすぐに「目覚める」「…を目覚めさせる」などを思い浮かべますが、wakeには「航跡、（船などが通った後の）波の跡、（物の）通った後」という意味もあります。ここで使われているwakeは後者の意味で、in the wake of で「Aの通った後に、Aにならって、続いて、A〈出来事などの〉の結果として[によって]」という意味になります。（『ウィズダム英和辞典　第３版』三省堂）
