Asahi.comとUSA TODAYを読んでいて，たまたま同様の表現を用いた見出しを見つけたので採り上げます。

見ての通りball is in one’s courtが共通の表現（前者はbe動詞が省略されています）。このball is in one’s courtは「今度は人の番である」（『リーダーズ英和辞典』第2版，研究社）という意味で，テニスに由来するものです（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』第4版，学研教育出版）。また，この表現は「順番」から転じて，「この次は人の責任である」（『リーダーズ英和辞典』同上）というように「責任」を表します。
前者のAsahi.comの記事は，stillと相まって「日本の番」と捉えることも，「日本の責任」と捉えることもできそうです。一方，後者は明らかに「あなたの選択にゆだねられている」という「責任」の意味で用いられています。（院生 小山本）
