今回はPrinciples of Language Learning and Teaching（第5版，Pearson Education）から英語表現を拾っていきます。

in one’s shoesはやや略式で「〈人〉に代わって，〈人〉の立場に身を置いて」という意味です（『ジーニアス大英和辞典』）。これはshoesに「立場，苦境」というニュアンスがあるからです。しかしshoeは豊穣・愛情・権威などの象徴でもあります。一つの単語に両極端の意味があるのは驚きでした（同上）。
基本単語を含むイディオムは数え切れないほど存在します。少しずつ，覚えていきたいものですね。（ゼミ生 persimmon柿生）
