Authorities say a bus hopped a curb and dislodged a war memorial cannon at a parklet in Pittsburgh.

インターンシップ派遣前訓練 報告
私は、今年の11月から某政府機関の中期インターンシップで４ヶ月間南米に派遣される予定です。そのための語学研修として、今月から70日間青年海外協力隊の派遣前訓練に参加します。長野県にある研修施設の気候は思っていたよりも涼しく、東京よりも過ごしやすそうです。
今回は初めてインターン生が訓練に参加させて頂くということで、周りには年上の方ばかりいて、少し緊張しています。
行きのバスで隣に座っていた方と、何気なく今まで訪ねた国について話をしていると、偶然お互いウガンダで同じNGO団体のボランティアをしていたことが分かり、とても話が盛り上がりました。このような何気ない会話で、色々な情報交換ができるのだと実感したので、明日からもできるだけ自分から話しかけて交流を増やしていこうと思いました。
初日は一日中オリエンテーションで、生活の規則や班活動、委員会制度などの説明を受けました。班ごとに分かれた際に一人ずつ軽く自己紹介をしたのですが、助産師さんや柔道をやっていた方など様々な専門分野で活躍してきた方がいて、これから関わって行くのがとても楽しみです。委員会や班の係は立候補制だったので、思い切って図書委員に立候補しました。協力隊の候補生の方々は皆，積極的な方が多いので、それに圧倒されずに私もついて行きたいと思いました。
昨日から本格的に語学の授業が始まりました。私のクラスは全員で6人の少人数クラスで、ペルー人の先生が優しいスペイン語で授業を進めてくださいます。少し難しい単語や文法の説明は、英語で行われるので、ギリギリまでゼミに参加していて良かったなと思いました。
初日からたくさんの宿題が出て、今日は一週間で唯一の休みですが宿題に追われる一日を過ごしています。訓練所での生活は、細かい規則がたくさんあって大変ですが、体調管理をしっかりしてこの機会に多くの大人の方と関わっていこうと思います。（Hakata）

今回取り上げるのは、Cindy Lauperが歌った名曲で自分も大好きな洋楽のひとつでもあるTrue Colorsです。
True Colorsは直訳では「本当の色」という意味になります。しかしながら，ネットでこの歌の和訳された歌詞を見ると，「あなたしかない色」や「あなたの心」と訳してあるものがありました。
なぜそうなるのか、colorを『カレッジ英英辞典』で引きますと，"everything we see has colors./ a color scheme ,a combination of colors ,esp, in interior design.とありました。これから「色」をその物や人を形付けるイメージや特徴を指すものと解釈できることがわかります。
したがってこの曲の文脈から読み取っていくと，歌詞のtrue colorsは「あなたらしさ」，また「あなたの個性」と解釈ができることがわかりました。(hapi.dra)

卒業研究の一部です。
“Me three.” （『トランスペアレント シーズン1』第5話 2014年，アメリカ）
＜解説＞
上記の表現は，長女Sarahと長男Joshそして末っ子Aliの三人のレストランでの会話の中に出てきたものである。
ウェイターに追加の注文を聞かれ，Joshがブラッディ・マリーをたのんだ。その後に “Me too.”とSarahも同じものをオーダーした。そして Aliが “Me three.”とウェイターに言ったのである。
インターネット辞書サイトWiktionaryによると， “(idiomatic, humorous) Used to express agreement, after someone has already said "me too".”とのことである。
またUrban DICTONARYにも, “In a situation when one person says something, and another one agrees with them, he/she might say "Me too".”と載っている。下は同サイトに記載されている例文である。
（例）Bob: I want ice cream.
Jack: Me too!
Bill: Me three!
ボブ:「アイス食べたいな。」
ジャック:「僕も！」
ビル:「俺も！」
以上の通り “Me too.”のあとに続けて使う口語である。つまり Aliも同じお酒を頼んだということになる。様々な問題を抱える家族だからこそ，ついついお酒がすすんでしまったようだ。
ちなみにこの表現は正しい英語ではないという考えもあるようだ。antimoonというインターネットサイトに，英語の先生に直されたとの書き込みがあり，複数の人が口語で使うが正しい英語とは言えないという返答をしている。（Gomez）

アメリカのトランプ大統領はG20が大成功に終わったと発言しました。実際は気候変動問題について，米国が孤立したため，20ヵ国の足並みはそろっておりません。
記事の中で気になった単語は"jeopardise"です。『Wisdom英和辞典第三版』(三省堂)を調べると"jeopardize"で「<行為･状況など> を危険にさらす, 危うくする; <生命･財産など> を危機に陥れる」という意味がありました。トルコのエルドアン大統領も気候変動協定に非協力的なことを示唆するなど，米国以外もパリ協定に賛成しない可能性があります。(Ume)
