“kimono-clad”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』で“clad”を引いたところ、「〚複合語で〛(…を)着た(clothed)；(…に)覆われた」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“wearing a particular kind of clothing”と定義されています。“clad”は古くてかたい表現で、“clothe”の過去形・過去分詞です。記事の“kimono-clad”は「着物を着た」という意味になります。成人を祝う儀礼で着物を着ることは古くからの慣習であることから、かたい“clad”という表現が使われているのではないかと思います。(Blue Sky)
