横綱日馬富士関が、後輩力士に対する暴力事件の責任を取る形として現役を引退することを発表しました。
Sumo grand champion Harumafuji says he's retiring to take responsibility for his actions and avoid degrading the rank of yokozuna.
Harumafuji is under police investigation for hitting and injuring lower-ranked wrestler Takanoiwa in a pub in Tottori City, western Japan, on October 25th.
The Japan Sumo Association had planned to decide on Harumafuji's punishment after examining the facts. But the yokozuna told the association on Wednesday that he's retiring.
Harumafuji held a news conference later on Wednesday in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, with his stable master Isegahama.

“stable master” を取り上げます。日本語でもお馴染みの “master” には「主人、長」といった意味があるとわかります。なので直訳すると「安定の(地位にいる) 主人、家長」となります。さらに調べていると “stable master” は相撲用語で「親方」と用いられることがわかりました。
「親方」は一般企業でいう「社長」を指します。「社長」はその企業の軸であったり大黒柱の役割を成し、その地位は絶対で何か不祥事などが伴わない限りは長い間居座ることが可能です。したがって相撲でいう「長い間居座ることができる役職」を指す「親方」を英語で「安定の地位にいる長」というニュアンスを伴った “stable master”で表すと推察できるでしょう。
ちなみに「社長」は “president” や “boss” が適切とされ、「代表取締役社長」は、“representative director” と英語では使われることがわかりました。
個人的に事件の全容が明らかにされないまま横綱にすべての責任を押し付ける形で引退させたとしか見えず、相撲協会という組織自体に疑念や不信感が生まれました。(Hapidra)
