As the world of sumo grapples with this latest scandal, new questions have arisen over the Oct. 25 incident that forced both wrestlers to sit out the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament now under way in Fukuoka.

　“tie one on”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「酔っ払う」とありました。主にアメリカ英語で用いられる俗語であるそうです。確認のためにLDOCEも引いたところ、“to get drunk”と定義されていました。また、「goo辞書」には「量をたくさん飲むという場合にも，量に関係なくわいわい騒いで飲むという場合にも使う。」とありました。つまり、楽しく騒ぎながらお酒を飲むことを広く“tie one on”で表現することができるようです。(Blue Sky)
