Having placed a career-high second at the All-Japan Championships last December to earn the ticket to Helsinki, even he is intrigued by how he will fare in the global meet.

“It will let me see how well I can get over the big wall of the world-class level,” Tanaka said.

The 22-year-old, whose career took a vast leap this season, set a goal of rewriting his personal bests while adding more dazzle to his performance.
