赤字のbe out of the bottleとは「取り返しのつかないことの状況」を指します(『ジーニアス英和辞典』)。もともとはlet the genie out of the bottleという「(人が)取り返しのつかないことをしてしまう」という表現で、その結果をbe out of the bottleと言います。ここで扱われるgenieとは『アラジン』のジーニーを指します。
他にもput the genie back in the bottle「(一度起こった好ましくない)変化を元に戻す」という表現もあります（『オーレックス英和辞典』）。
