Action game "Metal Gear Solid" to be made into Hollywood movie

TOKYO, Aug. 30, Kyodo

Konami Digital Entertainment Co. said Thursday that its action game "Metal Gear Solid" will be made into a live-action Hollywood movie produced by Avi Arad, who has worked on popular films like the "Spider-Man" series.

The date for the release of the movie, as well as its director and cast, has yet to be announced. The movie will be developed by Arad's company Arad Productions and Columbia Pictures, the game-making subsidiary of entertainment company Konami Corp. said.

"'Metal Gear' had the promise of connecting entertainment, gaming, motion picture, animation," Arad said at an event in Tokyo to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the "Metal Gear" series.

"We will take our time to tell the story with all the nuances, all the ideology, all the cautionary tales that this game brings us," he added.

The "Metal Gear" series features a main character who uses stealth to infiltrate an enemy base. Total global sales of the series had exceeded 32.4 million copies by the end of June, the company said.
