『Wisdom英和辞典 第三版』にて、さっそく調べてみますと、「(かたく)＜帽子・コートなどを＞ 着用する」とあります。ODには、"Put on (an item of clothing)"と定義されています。"don"の対義語に"doff"と書いてあるのを見つけ、"on"と"off"が語の中にあることから、関係を調べてみたところ、"don" は "do on"、"doff"は"do off"を短縮したものだとわかりました。"doff" は「(かたく)＜帽子・コートなどを＞脱ぐ」の他に「＜習慣などを＞やめる、捨てる」との意味にもなります。以下、例文です。
