今回取り上げるのは、”coup de grace”という表現です。『ジーニアス英和辞典G4 大修館書店』で調べてみると、フランス語由来で「とどめの一発〔一撃〕(death blow)」という意味がありました。また、”grace”を調べると「神の恵み、恩寵」という意味が見つかりました(『weblio英和辞典』)。山中選手の左ストレートは「神の左」と称され、この試合の「とどめの一発」はまさにそれでした。そのため、今回の記事の”coup de grace”には「神の左」という意味も含まれていると考えられます。(ninetails)
