No. of suicides in 2013 falls below 30,000 for second straight year
TOKYO —
The number of suicides in Japan in 2013 was 27,195, the second year in a row the number has dropped below 30,000. It was a 2.4% decrease from 2012 which saw 27,766 people take their own lives.
The statistics released Thursday by the National Police Agency showed that of the total number of suicides, 18,727 were men and 8,468 women.
記事にでてくる”take their own lives”が気になりました。Wisdom英和辞典（第三版）』（三省堂）で調べると”take one’s own life”で自殺するという意味がありました。自分の生命を（あの世に）持っていくという感じだと思いました。自殺者が減少したことは喜ばしいですが，数字は依然として高いと思いました。他殺より自殺の方がはるかに多いということに驚きます。（Ume）
