send~intoは、「人を〜の状態にさせる」（例：Jim's school report sent his father into a terrible temper.--『三省堂 英語イディオム・句動詞大辞典』）と押さえていましたが、こういうケースでも使えることを思い出しました。そういえば、send 《a satellite》 into space（衛星を打ち上げる）などは同じ発想からの表現ですね。（記憶の忘却曲線がはっきりみえはじめたUG）

Major landslides send Shizuoka tea field into river below

HAMAMATSU, Shizuoka Prefecture--Early morning landslides brought down part of a cliff-top tea field here on April 23, the Shizuoka prefectural government and other sources said.

An area of the cliff measuring about 90 meters in height and about 80 meters in width collapsed, sending about 50,000 cubic meters of earth and sand into the Sugigawa river flowing beneath it, the sources said.

There were no injuries or structural damages reported.

The landslides occurred in the Harunochosugi district of Tenryu Ward at around 4:20 a.m., 4:30 a.m. and 6:40 a.m., according to the sources.

The prefectural government has been keeping an eye on the area since late March when cracks were found in the ground of the tea field. As the cracks widened, the prefectural government urged 24 people of six households living on and beneath the cliff to evacuate from their houses on the night of April 21.

Some of the houses were located only about 30 meters from the collapsed area, both on and beneath the cliff.
