diplomatic nicetiesのdiplomaticはもちろん「外交の」ということですが，ときに「儀式的な，つきあい上の」というニュアンスもあります。nicetiesはnicetyの複数ですが，「微妙な点，細かい事柄」という意味です。合わせて，「外交的なお世辞，うわべだけの言葉」という意味になり，見出しのようなswapが動詞に使われるとまさに「美辞麗句の交換」という感じが強くなります。「みぞうゆ」でした。（UG）

South Korea’s president and Japan’s prime minister exchanged advice Monday on remaining “mature” and “cool-headed” but offered no concessions over a bitter territorial row that has soured relations.
In messages read out at an annual bilateral “friendship” meeting in Seoul, neither President Lee Myung-bak nor Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda directly addressed the dispute over an isolated island chain by name.
But the issue was clearly referenced in language couched in diplomatic niceties.
