put on its best face（ときに+forward）は，直訳すると「最高の顔を押す」となりますが，もちろんここのfaceは比喩表現で，「最高の印象を与える」「最高のもてなしを行う」あたりの意味になります。faceはこの他，いろいろなPイディオムで用いられますので，辞書でチェックをしておきましょう。（UG）

20,000 expected in Tokyo for IMF, World Bank meetings

Finance officials from the world’s leading economies meet in Tokyo this week for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank—the first time the Japanese capital has hosted the two meetings in 48 years.

A Finance Ministry spokesman said more than 20,000 people from 188 countries and territories are expected to attend the meetings which begin Tuesday and end next Sunday. To help speed up the VIPs’ arrival at Narita airport, they will be taken to a special entry point to complete customs and immigration procedures, a government official said.

Several hundred volunteers, many of them students, who are proficient in English and other languages, will be on duty to help the VIPs and their entourages during their stay in Japan. Hotels throughout the city say they are fully booked for the week. The Marunouchi area is putting on its best face with Christmas illumination displays having already started on Naka-dori.
