大阪維新の会代表の橋下徹大阪市長が会を「日本維新の会」にステップアップし、国政に進出する方針を宣言しました。宣言の中で橋下氏は「大阪都新法は成立したが、まだまだ不十分。国の統治機構にメスを入れ、あるべき姿に持って行く」と強調しました。

UG先生にならって、英語を考えながら聞いていましたが、とくに気になったのが「あるべき姿に持って行く」という箇所。

共同通信は"We will insert the surgical knife of reform into the state's governing structure to make things the way they should be."としていました。insert the surgical knifeはまだしも、the way they should beというのはなかなか出てきませんでした。

そこで思い出したのが以前、紹介していただいたレオ・J・ミーズの『鋭い英語表現』（1980, 朝日新聞社）（or その続編？）にあった「映画らしい映画」というフレーズの英訳です。

確かThis is the movie as movies should be.と訳されていました。これと同じ発想なのですね。僕の修業はまだはじまったばかりです。（EnDOugh）

Hashimoto declares bid to influence national politics
OSAKA, Sept. 8, Kyodo

Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto, already one of the most influential figures in Japan, declared on Saturday his bid to shake up national politics.

"To step up reform in Osaka, we have to change the root of the central government, so I take one step forward and make efforts to establish a political party," Hashimoto said in a meeting of his political group.

Last week, Japan's parliament passed a bill to support his proposal to create an administrative structure similar to Tokyo's.

Under the bill, Osaka and nine other cities across the country with a population of 2 million will be able to establish special wards like in Tokyo after gaining sufficient support from local assemblies and residents in plebiscites.

"We saw the passage of the new Osaka bill, but that's not enough," Hashimoto said. "We will insert the surgical knife of reform into the state's governing structure to make things the way they should be."

The name of the new party will be Nippon Ishin no Kai (Nippon Restoration Association), he added.
