amp up

先ほどとは違う記事から英語表現を拾います。以下，Seattle Times（2012/04/21付）の記事より抜粋。

今回の表現はamp upです。ampはamplify「…を拡大[拡張]する，〈感情〉を誇張する」という意味を表す単語の略式で，amp upという成句で用いられると「（略式）…を増幅する，強化する，拡大する」という意味を表します（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第4版，大修館書店）。最終回，ハンバー投手はマ軍の先頭打者サウンダースに対して初めて3ボールとカウントを悪くしましたが，この危機を見事三振で乗り切り完全試合達成に向けて前進しました。そのため，amp upを含むサンダース選手のコメントは「（あの三振で）彼の投球を勢いづけてしまった」などの意味でとることができます。（GP）
