under the belt

今回はfacebookのトワイライトサーガ・エクリプスのファンページのコメントの中から英語の落穂拾いをします。
I'm still reading the books (I'm nearly finished with New Moon); once I'm finished reading, I want to watch the first three movies - then once I've got all of that under my belt, I'll be ready to go to the midnight screenings of Breaking Dawn along with everyone else!! ^_^
注目したいのは，under my belt という表現です。直訳すると，「ベルトのした」ですが，これでは意味が通りません。そこで辞書をみると，under one’s belt「｛経験などが｝自分の血肉となって，習得されて，取得して」（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第4版，大修館書店）とありました。つまりここでは，I've got all of that under my belt「トワイライトシリーズすべてを頭に叩き込んだ」という意味になるようです。
