　シャープは半導体事業を2019年4月に分社化することを発表しました。

Sharp to spin off chip unit

Sharp Corp. has said it will spin off its semiconductor business possibly in April 2019.

The move is aimed at establishing a structure that enables prompt management decisions and active introduction of outside resources through tie-ups with other firms.

Sharp will set up two wholly owned subsidiaries that will absorb its semiconductor-related operations to be spun off, the company said Wednesday.

　spin offを取り上げます。スピンオフ作品などとカタカナでも使われる言葉ですが、ここでは動詞として用いられています。親会社から分化して新たな部門ができることを表しているのではないかと思いました。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べると「（主に米）（会社の一部から）（新会社）を独立させる」とありました。

　LDOCEには “to make part of a company into a separate and partly independent company, or to become a separate company” と定義されています。

　今回の分社化には、他社と組むチャンスを増やし、成長につなげるという狙いがあるそうです。（aqua）
