Ex-Aum Kikuchi cleared of 1995 mail bomb attack
The Supreme Court has cleared former Aum Supreme Truth cult member Naoko Kikuchi, 46, of her alleged role in the 1995 mail bomb attack by the doomsday cult group.
In its decision dated Monday, the top court’s First Petty Bench dismissed the prosecution’s appeal against the Tokyo High Court’s ruling in November 2015 that overturned a guilty verdict for Kikuchi given by lay judges at the Tokyo District Court in June 2014. The top court panel’s five justices made the decision unanimously.
She is the second to be confirmed innocent in any of the series of Aum-linked cases.

doomsday /dúːmzdèɪ/ を取り上げます。doomには不幸な運命という意味があることから、なんとなく想像できます。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）で引くと、「最後の審判の日、（Last Judgement）；世の終わり（の日）」とありました。
LDOCEには “the last day of the Earth’s existence, when everything will be destroyed, according to some religions” と定義されています。
“the doomsday cult group” を上記の意味で考えるとよくわからなくなってしまいますが、以前ブログに取り上げられていたものを見てみると、 “doomsday cult” を「終末論を説くカルト集団」と捉えることができると述べられていました。終末論では世界や人間の終末について論じるということをふまえると、最後の審判などについて考える人々の集まりを表すこともできるのだろうと思いました。 (aqua)
