WASHINGTON--U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said "only one thing will work" in dealing with North Korea after previous administrations had talked to Pyongyang without results.

　“before the ink is dry”を取り上げます。直訳すると「インクが乾く」という意味になります。辞書でこの表現を引いてみましたが該当する表現は載っていませんでした。そこでインターネットで検索してみたところ、「英辞郎 on the WEB」に“before the ink is dry on one's contract”「契約書のインクが乾かないうちに」という表現がありました。また、インターネッのCambridge Dictionaryでは、“the ink is not dry/still wet”という表現が“You say that the ink is not dry/still wet on a document if it has just been written or produced”と説明があり、“The ink was barely dry on the peace agreement when fighting broke out again.”という例文が示されていました。これは“before the ink is dry”と同じ意味で用いられる表現だと思います。契約や取り決めなどが合意された直後に変更、または破られた際、契約が交わされてからまだ間もないことを表現するために用いられる表現です。(Blue Sky)
