Photogs try to recapture elusive dreamy image at Tottori dunes
As a memento for his guests, tour operator Nobuhiro Ogura snapped a photo using a smartphone at the iconic sand dunes here in October 2016.
The image is one that even a professional photographer would envy, of a biker seemingly riding on the ocean.
Ogura, 46, is the owner of Trail On, which organizes tours of the Tottori sand dunes using what are called fat bikes. With wider than normal tires, the bikes allow for easier maneuvering over the sandy trails in the area.
Ogura took the photo soon after a wave had receded out into the ocean, leaving behind a "mirror" on the sand that reflected both the sky and the rider on the bike.
The photo was posted on Facebook and was soon introduced on a travel website.

dune /d(j)úːn/ を取り上げます。 “the Tottori sand dunes” とあることから、砂丘のことをさしていることはわかるのですが、desertとの違いが気になりました。まずduneを『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）で引くと「（海浜の）砂丘」とありました。LDOCEには “a hill made of sand near the sea or in the desert” と定義されています。
desertを上記の英英辞典で調べると “a large area of land where it is always very dry, there are few plants, and there is a lot of sand or rocks” とあり、 “a hill” と “a large area” という形や規模の違いが確認できました。duneは砂が風などで堆積してできたもの、desertは乾燥していて植物がほとんど育たず、砂や岩が広がっている土地と考えることができるかと思いました。（aqua）
