　すでに取り上げられていますが、猫を殺害する動画をネットに投稿した男が動物虐待で逮捕されました。

A licensed tax accountant has admitted to killing cats with scalding water, a blow torch and pliers in grisly acts that were posted on the Internet, police said Aug. 29.

　今回気になった単語はanonymouslyです。これは副詞型なので形容詞型のanonymousを『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第3版 三省堂)で引いてみると「1 名前の不明な,匿名の 2〈場所などが〉特徴のない,ありふれた」という意味がありました。副詞では「匿名で」の意味だけ持つようです。ここでは「匿名で動画サイトに投稿された」と訳されます。語源はギリシャ語だそうで、onymで「名前」という意味を表すそうです。anは「無〜,非〜」を表す接頭辞なのでそれが合わさってanonymで「無名の」という意味を持つことが分かりました。
　逮捕された男は残虐な方法で猫を殺害する動画を投稿していたようですが、「有害な動物を駆除しただけで違法行為ではない」と主張しているそうです。倫理観の損なわれた、とても痛ましい事件です。(Ayaka)
