今回はgo under the knifeを紹介します。何となくニュアンスはつかめるかと思います。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）にはknife /nάɪf/ で「（外科用の）メス, 外科手術」とあり、go under the knifeで「手術を受ける」とありました。Cambridge Dictionaryには “to have a medical operation” とあり、口語的な表現になります。つまり記事では「整形手術」と解釈できるでしょう。
記事の内容に戻りますと、韓国の美容事情についてでした。韓国は「整形大国」と言われるほど充実している国であります。しかし、お化粧や整形することでの「美」ではなく、ありのままで自分が美しいと訴える人々が多くいます。(amphibian)
