今回はthrow one’s weight behindに注目しました。直訳すると「体重を投げる」になりますが、これでは意味が通じません。『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）には「…を全力で支援する」とありました。ここで使われているweightは「重さ, 重量」ではなく、「重要さ, 影響力」の意味になります。

また似た表現に、throw one’s support behind, throw weight aroundなどが挙げられます。これらを使った記事が過去のブログに取り上げられているので、参考にしてみてください。
