Hiroshima remembers atomic bomb victims
Japan marked the 73rd anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on Monday. Tens of thousands of people gathered to honor the victims at an annual memorial ceremony held in the city.

今回気になったのは、cenotaph /sénətæ`f/ です。以下で意味等を確認していきます。
まず、LDOCEで引いてみると、“a MONUMENT built to remind people of soldiers, sailors, etc who were killed in a war and are buried somewhere else”とあり、『ウィズダム英和辞典』には、「（戦没者の）記念碑」と載っていました。
続いて、ODEで語源を調べてみると、“early 17th cent. : from French cénotaphe, from late Latin cenotaphium, from Greek keno’s ‘empty’ + taphos ‘tomb’.”と定義されていました。
