6,000 dancers invade Tokyo’s Omotesando, put on dazzling show
Tokyo's Omotesando avenue, a popular shopping/cafe district and place to people-watch, was taken over by thousands of dancers performing spectacular synchronized routines in flamboyant costumes Aug. 27.
An estimated 6,000 dancers in a record 106 teams participated in the Harajuku Omotesando Genki Festival Super Yosakoi 2017 dedicated to the nearby Meiji Jinju Shrine and held at four other venues in the city's Shibuya Ward on Aug. 26 and 27.

“flamboyant”/flæmbˈɔɪənt/を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「〈性格・行動などが〉派手な、華々しい、自信に満ちて大胆な、異彩を放つ；〈服装などが〉派手な、人目を引く」とありました。今回の記事では衣装が派手なことを表現するために用いられています。確認のためにLDOCE、を引いたところ、“brightly colored and easily noticed”と定義されていました。“flamboyant”はフランス語の“flamboyer”「燃え上がる」を語源としているそうです(goo辞書)。(Blue Sky)
