今回取り上げる表現はbring the house downというフレーズです。辞書でその意味を調べてみるとbring down the houseもしくはbring the house downで「（演技・俳優などが）観客をうならせる，満場のかっさいを得る」と載っていました（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』第4版，学研教育出版）。houseには家という意味以外にも「劇場；興行；観客」といった意味があります（同上）。ニュージーランドは世界の1位2位を争うラグビーの強豪国です。そんなチームと渡り合った日本チームの健闘ぶりに観客はうなったのではないでしょうか。
