For a generation used to swiping right for love, these networking apps are a natural fit.
It can be tough moving cities and finding work. So Katherine Hogan, 24, a graduate student in Boston who is relocating to New York, is using all the tools at her disposal. She’s signed up for Shapr, a networking app, after seeing an advertisement on Instagram.
“The primary reason I joined is because I’m moving to New York and I know it’ll be tough to find a job immediately,” she says. “I put the option of saying I’m new in town and looking for opportunities.”

今回取り上げるのは“swipe right”です。記事の題名として使われていたこの単語ですが、全く意味がわからなかったので調べてみました。
“swipe”から(『ジーニアス英和辞典第五版』大修館)で調べてみても出てきませんでした。『Free dictionary』によると、“slang To show interest in or approval of someone or something in an app. The phrase was popularized by the dating app Tinder, in which users "swipe right" on the screen to indicate interest in a potential mate..”とありました。出会い系サイトで行う行為がそのまま使われ、「興味を示す」のような意味の表現ができたのだと分かりました。ネット上にはこの対義語が“swipe left”と載っていました。(Creative)
