A dog and cat with strikingly similar black-and-white features became two peas in a pod after a kindly pet owner took in the stray kitty, and now the cute twosome are Internet celebrities.

Photographs of canine Fuunmaru and feline Raizo cuddled up together went viral on Twitter last year, and their fame has since spread to the worlds of publishing and TV.

No Tom & Jerry types, the pair get along well, and the 7-year-old dog and the cat, estimated to be 11 months old, always sleep together despite the difference in size and species, according to owner Mitsuo Ryu.

　cuddle up /kˈʌdl/ を取り上げます。記事にはcuddled up togetherと述べられていることから、仲良くやっていくといった意味になるかと思いましたが、少し違いました。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べるとcuddleだけでは「（…）を抱き締める、抱いてかわいがる（hug）」「抱き合う」などの意味があり、cuddle upの形で「（…に）寄り添う；寄り添って寝る（together, against, to）」という意味になることがわかりました。

　LDOCEには前者は “to hold someone or something very close to you with your arms around them, especially to show that you love them” 後者は “to lie or sit very close to someone or something” とそれぞれ定義されています。

　Photographs of canine Fuunmaru and feline Raizo cuddled up togetherという部分からは、違う動物どうしにもかかわらず、2匹がとても仲良しな様子が伝わってきます。（aqua）
