　北朝鮮の金正恩委員長は予告なしに中国を訪問し、中国の習近平国家主席と会談をしました。

BEIJING — North Korea’s enigmatic young leader, Kim Jong-un, made an unannounced visit to Beijing, meeting with President Xi Jinping weeks before planned summit meetings with American and South Korean leaders, Chinese and North Korean state news media reported on Wednesday.

The visit amounted to Mr. Kim’s international debut: It was the 34-year-old leader’s first trip outside North Korea since he took power in 2011, and his first meeting with another head of state. The surprise discussions added another layer of complexity to the rush of global diplomacy around North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

Mr. Kim told the Chinese leader that he was open to dialogue with the United States, including a potential summit meeting with President Trump, and was committed to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, according to an account published by China’s news

　disdainful に注目しました。『ジーニアス英和辞典第5版』(大修館書店) によると「やたら軽蔑した、不敬な、尊大な」といった意味があります。『ケンブリッジ英英辞典』を見てみると “the feeling of not liking someone or something and thinking that they do not deserve your interest or respect” と定義され、何かに対して侮辱や軽蔑の気持ちを抱く様あるいは尊敬や興味を抱かない様を表していることがわかります。
　disdainfulは「ふさわしい、価値のある」というニュアンスを伴う -dain- に否定的な意義を持つ接頭辞 dis- から成ることがわかりました。dign-を含む語彙は他に condign (妥当な) や dignity (尊厳、品位) などがあげられ、いずれも dign の意義が語彙の意味に含まれていることが窺えます。
