Waiter ... there's a human finger in my bowl of ramen

SHIZUOKA--Ramen comes with many toppings, but the tip of a finger, nail included, is not usually one of them.

Unless, that is, you were at the Korakuen ramen branch near Shizuoka’s Shimizu Interchange around lunchtime on Sept. 10.

The tip of a human finger, with a bit of nail attached, was found nestled in a bowl of noodles.

A female customer noticed there was something other than pork in the bowl of noodles her child was tucking into and reported it to staff.

The “foreign object” was later inspected by public health center officials. They said it seemed to the tip of a nailed finger about seven to eight millimeters long and one centimeter wide.

The Korakuen headquarters, based in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, revealed Oct. 12 that a part-time staffer had chopped off the finger tip while cutting “chashu” roasted pork using a meat slicer.

A Korakuen spokesperson said a written explanation of the finger-chopping incident and subsequent contamination of a bowl of noodles had been submitted to Shizuoka city’s public health center.

The company said it would “strive to prevent a recurrence.”

So it seems fingertips are now most certainly off the menu.

Macmillan Dictionaryでは“INFORMAL to eat food with enthusiasm because you like it or because you are hungry”と定義されていました。 (Blue Sky)
