見出しにある“in the flesh”を取り上げます。以前も何度か取り上げられているので復習になりますが、『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると“flesh”は「(人や動物の皮や骨に対する)肉」「皮膚, 肌, 肌の色」などという意味があり、“in the flesh”で「まのあたりに見る」「実物で」という意味がありました。LDOCEでは“if you see someone in the flesh, you see someone who you previously had only seen in pictures, films etc” と定義されています。
今回は「実写化で」という訳になるかと思います。
fleshに関連して “flesh pot”では「歓楽街」「ぜいたくで勝手気ままな暮らしをさせてくれる所, 美食」という意味があり、 聖書の中で“the fleshpot of Egypt”「 エジプトの饗宴（きょうえん）」という表現があることがわかりました。(lua)
