nowhereは「どこにも［どこへも］…ない」という意味の単語ですが，nowhere nearで「…にはほど遠い, …どころではない」という意味があります（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。本文や同辞書に挙げられていたThe concert hall was nowhere near full.（コンサートホールは満員にはほど遠かった）という用例からもわかるように，nearの後には形容詞がくるようですね。本文は「別れを言う（心の）準備が全くできていない」と解釈できます。（KOyamamoto）
