As he approached the farmhouse with the forest green shutters and opened the old-fashioned wooden door, Terry Dawes readied himself for what he was about to see inside.
Born and raised in Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province, Mr Dawes had visited the famous "Green Gables" historic site many times throughout his life.
But this building that Mr Dawes was about to enter wasn't that house at all - it was an exact replica built 9,700km away, in Hokkaido, Japan. At its peak, the house - one of the main attractions at Japan's Canadian World theme park - drew 40,000 visitors a day.
Now, the park is largely abandoned, a ghost of Japan's economic heyday in the 1990s.

今回はheydayに注目いたしました。Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 “the period of a person’s thing’s greatest success, popularity, activity, or vigour”と定義されておりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「（若さ・元気・繁栄などの）盛り，絶頂，最盛期」と載っておりました。
上記英英辞典によると、16世紀ごろに喜びや驚きなどを表す感嘆詞として“heyday!”が使われていたようです。（Gomez）

Gray wolves in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan could again find themselves in hunters' crosshairs — possibly as soon as this fall if federal protections are removed for the predators.
A ruling is expected soon from an appeals court that recently lifted protections for wolves in Wyoming. In Congress, wolf-hunting supporters aren't giving up even though a Minnesota representative was instrumental in killing an effort that would have allowed the three western Great Lakes states to resume wolf hunting.
Gray wolves were once hunted to the brink of extinction in most of the country, but they recovered under Endangered Species Act protections and reintroduction programs. They now number over 5,500 in the lower 48 states, including nearly 3,800 in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.

ハイイロオオカミはかつて狩によって絶滅の危機に瀕しましたが、保護団体によって絶滅の危機から逃れることができ、生息数が回復してきています。

Warm welcome for tourists at Narita Airport visitor center
Foreign tourists can experience Japan’s “omotenashi” hospitality culture as soon as they land at Narita Airport this fall with the opening of a new Visitor Service Center.
The facility will bring together the airport’s numerous visitor services in one place, at arrivals in the airport’s Terminal 1, with the aim of improving the inbound customer experience.
“We want to create an area that will serve as the ‘starting point of their trip to Japan’ for each and every visitor,” said a Narita International Airport Corp. (NAA) official.
NAA announced that the new facility is designed to improve convenience for the increasing number of visitors to Japan by providing a one-stop information and service center to offer a greater sense of reassurance and comfort during their stay in Japan.

one-stopを取り上げます。直訳すると「一度立ち止まる」となりますが、どのような意味になるのでしょうか。手持ちの紙辞書には記載されていませんでしたが、電子辞書の『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第4版 大修館書店）には形容詞で「（店やサービスが）ワンストップの、1か所ですべてが済む」とありました。日本語でもカタカナで「ワンストップ」と用いるようです。
Merriam-Websterには “providing or offering a comprehensive range of goods or services at one location; also : provided or offered at such a location” と定義されており、例に “one–stop shopping” が挙げられています。
記事の本文では “a one-stop information and service center” とすることで、滞在に必要な情報収集やサービスを受けるのに、この１ヶ所で解決できることが伺えます。（aqua）

“narrow down”を取り上げます。“narrow”は形容詞で「狭い」という意味であることはよく知られていますが、動詞として用いることもできます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)を引いたところ、「«…に»…(の範囲)を狭める、〈数・可能性など〉を少なくする、絞る（down）«to»」とありました。今回の記事では候補者を絞るという意味で用いられています。『ウィズダム英和辞典』の例文にも“narrow (down) the list to three candidates”「リストを３人の候補者に絞る」が提示されており、「候補者を絞る」という意味でよく使われる表現であるようです。また、LDOCEでは“if s range, difference etc narrows, or if something narrows it, it becomes less”と定義されています。

Amazing haul of ancient human finds unveiled
In 2015, Prof Berger told BBC News that the remains could be up to three million years old based on their primitive characteristics. Yet the bones are only lightly mineralised, which raised the possibility that they might not be very ancient (although this is not always an accurate guide).
In order to arrive at an age, the team dated the bones themselves, sediments on the cave floor and flowstones - carbonate minerals formed when water runs down the wall or along the floor of a cave.
Several techniques were used: optically stimulated luminescence to date the cave sediments, uranium-thorium dating and palaeomagnetic analyses for the flowstones and combined U-series and electron spin resonance (US-ESR) for dating three naledi teeth.
By combining results together, they were able to constrain the age of the Homo naledi remains to between 236,000 and 335,000 years ago.
