今回はminnow /mínoʊ/ を紹介します。文脈からでは意味を読み取ることが厳しいので、調べました。

『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）には「ミノー＜ユーラシア産のコイ科の魚＞；コイ科の小魚」また「取るに足らない人[組織]」とありました。この記事では後者に近い意味で使われているのではないでしょうか。Oxford Living Dictionariesは “a small or insignificant person or organization” と定義しています。また同辞書に語源について “Late Middle English: probably related to Dutch meun and German Münne, influenced by Anglo-Norman French menu ‘small, minnow’.” とあり、様々な言語が絡んでいます。
