Anger as security bills steamrolled despite lack of public support

With the government and ruling parties steamrolling through a set of security bills poised to fundamentally alter Japan's security policy during a House of Representatives committee meeting on July 15, increased debate around the bills -- whose proponents point out has exceeded 100 hours -- has in fact served to deepen the public's mistrust. Meanwhile, anger continues to simmer both within and outside the Diet toward an administration that seems completely indifferent to citizens' views in this regard.

At around 12:25 p.m., the leader of a protest taking place in front of the National Diet Building announced, "The bills have just been passed" -- prompting a collective cry of shock and anger from those assembled in the crowd.

中略

"The Abe administration is using the tyranny of numbers to push this legislation through, but has he truly reflected upon the experiences of wartime?" she continued angrily. "It seems that we are moving back in time. I cannot condone it."

LDOCEで調べてみると、“to accept or forgive behavior that most people think is morally wrong”と定義が見つかりました。

(ninetails)
