ここ神奈川でも8月31日で，48日連続の熱帯夜の記録が打ち立てられてしまいました。そして記録の更新はまだまだ続くようです。どうもanticycloneが居座っているのが理由のようです。ところでこの言葉，どんな意味なんでしょうか。cycloneの反対だなんて面白い言い方ですね。

'Sweltering nights' hit record in Tokyo
Amid the lingering summer heat baking Japan, this year's total number of so-called "sweltering nights" -- with low temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius or higher -- in central Tokyo has reached a record high of 48, Japan Metrological Agency (JMA) officials said.
The Tokyo metropolitan area suffered from the 48th sweltering night on Aug. 31, which surpassed 1994's record of 47 sultry nights. Due to a Pacific anticyclone lingering over Tokyo, the city center on Aug. 31 also had its first "extremely hot day" since Aug. 23 (with high temperatures of 35 degrees or higher) with a high of 35.8 degrees.
Moreover, the number of consecutive sweltering nights in central Tokyo became 22 on Aug. 31, just one day less than a record of 23 set in August 1984. JMA officials say there is a high possibility that the record will be broken this year as they expect a prolonged period of hot weather.
