スノーボード界の絶対女王と呼ばれた、ケリークラークさんが現役引退を表明しました。

Has it really been 20 years? What stands out when you look back on your journey through snowboarding?

Well, a lot of people don’t realize that there wasn’t a lot of opportunity for women when I was getting started, and wanted to be a professional snowboarder. The most surefire way to make it as a pro snowboarder was through competition. It’s like, “Okay, this is it, I gotta make sure I can perform under pressure – that’s my only chance.”

今回取り上げるのは surefire /ˈʃɔːfaɪə/ です。sureに近い意味をもっていると考えました。さっそく、『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）で調べてみると「(やり方、優勝の可能性などが)絶対確実な、成功間違いなしの」とありました。また、LDOCEで調べてみると、 “certain to succeed”と定義されていました。過去のブログにも、取り上げられています。

彼女の生涯を辿ると、先駆者の苦労と努力があったことが明確です。記事を読んで、一つのことを極める凄さを知りました。
ちなみに、Burtonと彼女のコラボ商品が出ていますが、残念ながら女性用のみでした。(KOH)
