ruminate 復習

気になったのがruminate /ˈruːməneɪt/ です。文脈から「あれこれと迷う」ではないかと推測しました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第五版、大修館書店)では「(心の中で繰り返し)思い巡らす、沈思する、(動物が)食べ物を反芻する、...についてよく考える」とあります。また、LDOCEでは “to think carefully and deeply about something” “if animals such as cows ruminate, they bring food back into their mouths from their stomachs and chew it again” と定義されています。Oxford Living DictionariesをみるとMid 16th century: from Latin ruminat- ‘chewed over’, from the verb ruminari.と語源が載っていました。
私も試合をオンラインで観戦しました。いつものマレー選手らしいプレーが少なかったことに、引退の近さを改めて感じさせられました。その反面、試合後のオンコートインタビューでは、復帰も示唆してくれました。(seventh-dan)
